Charles R. Adrian, an emeritus UCR professor of political science, died May 28, 2004, at his Riverside home from complications of diabetes. He was 82.
Dr. Adrian, who taught at UCR for more than 20 years, focused his research on cities and suburbs, the role of political parties and the impact of the urban reform movement away from big-city political bosses of the late 19th century.
He came to UCR as Department of Political Science chairman in 1966 from a similar post at Michigan State University.
Except for a year spent as special assistant to the academic vice president for the University of California system, he stayed at UCR until retiring in 1988.
Dr. Adrian received his bachelorís degree from Cornell College in 1947 and his doctorate from the University of Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; a daughter, Kristin; a son, Nelson; six grandchildren; and a sister, Marian Parsons.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.
