Seymour D. Van Gundy, professor and dean emeritus of nematology and plant pathology at UCR, has been appointed by California Gov. Gray Davis to the Regional Water Quality Control Board, Santa Ana Region. His term on the board will extend to Sept. 30, 2002.
Members of the California Regional Water Quality Control Boards protect and enhance water quality. The Santa Ana region, home to nearly 5 million people, includes portions of Riverside, Orange and San Bernardino counties.
Van Gundy served as dean of the UCR College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences from 1988 to 1993. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Society of Nematologists and the American Phytopathological Society. In addition, Van Gundy serves on the Citrus Research Board and the California Citrus State Historical Park Board.
He joined UCR in 1957.
